This study investigates the types and functions of illocutionary acts in the Mata Najwa podcast episode “Kenapa Perlu Kuliah ala Maudy, Andhika, & Amanda.” Using Austin’s (1962) and Searle’s (1969) speech act theories, this descriptive qualitative study analyzes 72 utterances from the podcast transcript. The findings identify four types of illocutionary acts: assertive (26), expressive (20), directive (18), and commissive (8), while no declarative acts were found. Assertive acts were the most dominant, showing that the speakers mainly expressed opinions, beliefs, and experiences about higher education. Directive acts provided advice and encouragement, while expressive and commissive acts conveyed emotions and commitments. Overall, the findings show that speech acts help the speakers share information, encourage the audience, and promote positive views of higher education
