A PRAGMA-STYLISTIC STUDY OF PRABOWO SUBIANTO’S SPEECH PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION ON BERITASATU YOUTUBE CHANNEL 2024

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the speech structure, illocutionary acts, and stylistic features used in the inaugural address of Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia. The analysis was conducted using the Generic Structure Potential (GSP) framework proposed by Awoyemi and Ajayi (2023), Searle’s theory of illocutionary acts (1965), and the concept of figurative language developed by Gorys Keraf (2009). This study employed a qualitative descriptive method using the techniques of document analysis, listening, and note-taking. The results indicate that the inaugural address exhibits a discourse structure consistent with the mandatory patterns in the GSP framework. Several types of speech acts identified include assertive, expressive, directive, and commissive speech acts, while the figurative language used in the speech consists of metaphors and hyperbole. Further research is recommended to broaden the scope by comparing several inaugural speeches, rather than focusing on just one.
